Tehran Friday Prayer Imam denounces US interference in Ukraine

Tehran’s Interim Friday Prayer Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ahmad Khatami condemned the US’ interference in Ukraine’s internal affairs, saying that the issue has taken the country to brink of war.

Addressing the congregational worshippers on Tehran University campus, he described US meddling in Ukraine’s affairs as acts of aggression, asking the US officials, “Who are you to interfere in the Ukrainian nation’s domestic affairs.”

The enemies have from the beginning hatched plots against the Islamic Republic, but they were always doomed to failure, the prayer leader said.

Referring to takeover of the US’ den of spies and their arrest by the Iranian students, Khatami said that if the countries such as Egypt which had launched revolutions repeated the same practice, they would never have faced the problems they are facing today.

“The US’ officials ranging from Carter to Obama were seeking to topple the Islamic Republic, but they failed to do anything, not that they did not want,” he said.

As to the Geneva deal clinched by Iran and 5+1 Group, he said that after that, they were due to speak wisely, but they since ever imposed at least three more sanctions and 15 military threats were seen in their remarks.

Denouncing the US ruling to seize building of Alavi Foundation in the country, he said that the foundation has nothing to do with the Iranian government and is a totally public asset where charity works and Persian language education are conducted.

The move is completely illegal, as it is sheer lie, he said, noting that Iran itself is a victim of terrorism and if the world wants to find a terrorist government backing terrorism, the criminal US is at frontline of terrorism.

Negotiating officials should know that they have entered into talks with a malicious and untrustworthy enemy, he said, noting that of course they have on several occasions mentioned the issue.
